For the newly forming varsity teams around the country, there’s something special about playing Eastern Illinois University, the first varsity women’s program in U.S. history. Last Saturday, Life University welcomed EIU to Marietta, Ga., and then celebrated a 61-0 win over the visitors.
It's typically quite the exercise to recount every evolution of Winona's games. The ACRA DII champion records high point differentials, and last Saturday, the Black Katts banked its highest victory margin against Bemidji. It was crossover weekend for the Northeast DI women’s colleges, which produced one thing: big scores. These games do not impact standings, and good thing, because Norwich, Army and American International College outscored their opponents by a combined 348-5.
Last year, Winona, Notre Dame College, Vassar and Kutztown (in that order) finished atop ACRA’s division II. Here’s a look at what the Final Four did this weekend:
Saturday’s game against Norwich was probably the most important of DI Quinnipiac’s fall season. Yes, it was friendly. Yes, it was a loss. But the 45-38 scoreline is representative of the vast improvement the team has made since fall 2013.
