College Women
The National Collegiate Women’s Varsity Rugby Association (NCWVRA) season culminated Sunday, as top-ranked Quinnipiac and Army competed for the first-ever title.
After a tense playoff weekend, the four women’s DII college regionals have named their representatives to the fall championship semifinals. The teams will gather at Furman University (S.C.) on Dec. 5-6, and the fall champion will move onto the DII national championship in May 2016.
The top-two-ranked varsity teams, Quinnipiac and Army, won their NCVWRA semifinals against Norwich and American International College, respectively, and head to the first-ever varsity championship. The finalists split their regular-season matches by a total of five points, so a good game should evolve.
As the fall season comes to a close, there are already glimpses of the action that awaits in the spring. West Coast teams have played each other at tournaments like Scrum by the Sea and Stanford 7s, and the Pacific Mountain Conference has held North Division games.
The women’s DI college fall championship has been the toughest competition to figure out, but now that it’s set, let’s see what’s occurring this weekend.
