College Women
There are so many new, exciting things happening in women’s college rugby. Lindenwood seems to sign a High School All American every other day; Central Washington is heading to the DI spring semifinals in its first year as a varsity program; the Rocky Mountain 7s series has pulled isolated teams in the West into meaningful competition, among many other developments.
The 2nd annual NSCRO Women's 7s Championship has confirmed its lineup. Eight teams will convene at West Point, N.Y., on May 2-3, alongside the DI and DII ACRA Women's 7s championships.
Rutgers celebrated back-to-back tournament wins, one in each version of the sport. Two weekends ago, Rutgers won the Tri-State 7s Championship and followed with a Beast of the East title yesterday.
One week ago today, Virginia Women’s Rugby (UVA) was recovering from the quarterfinal loss that eliminated it from the DI spring final four. But the end of one season meant the frenetic beginning of another, as UVA had less than a week to ready for the NOVA 7s national qualifier.
Bloomsburg proved that its first Mid-Atlantic 7s title wasn’t a fluke by winning the second leg of the series in East Stroudsburg Saturday. Return finalist Kutztown provided excellent competition, but the 22-12 decision to Bloomsburg awarded the conference title.
