The Allegheny Conference opened its men’s D2 action this past weekend, getting a bit of a head start on the rest of D2.
Defending national champs IUP opened their conference season with a fairly comfortable 44-12 win over Slippery Rock.
IUP Head Coach Seth Erwin has several returning starters on which to draw so really his lineup decisions were more about tinkering.
As we said in our opening rankings, expect some changes.
The Liberty D1 season got going this weekend with four games: Brown vs Siena, Dartmouth vs Syracuse, AIC vs Fairfield, and Iona vs Fordham.
All four games were competitive, or even extremely close.
Men's D1-level games this weekend were punctuated by non-conference games of differing levels of importance.
Some of the games this week were modified games or scrimmages, but we also had full-on games that served as preseason warmups. But what is additionally worth noting is these games cross conference boundaries, giving fans an idea of where those conferences sit competitively.
Bowling Green, Ohio, and Louisville all emerged victorious in the opening weekend of action in the Mid American Conference.
Ohio beat Dayton 41-12, while Louisville won big over Pitt 65-5.
Bowling Green also won fairly convincingly 38-5, although Cincinnati put together some solid periods of play and perhaps were a little unlucky not to score more.
