GRR: CSU Long Beach
The California D1A Conference has essentially completed its regular season and here are a few observations.
Saint Mary's is the winner. The standings below don't reflect a result between the Gaels and Sacramento State but they didn't play that game and it's likely to be listed as a forfeit or something ... it's a good bet Saint Mary's would have won that.
Cal State Long Beach is now in D1A and it seems like they fit in quite well.
The 49ers marked their move up in the fall with games against what was probably their toughest conference opponents, Saint Mary's and Cal Poly. Not surprisingly, they lost. But last week's 35-15 win over UC Santa Barbara showed that they are most certainly a team to watch in this league.
Cal Poly followed up one big-scoring game with another as the Mustangs beat Santa Clara 78-21.
Led by another impressive showing from captain and inside center Coby Baker and hard running and strong defense from No. 8 Ryan Wenstrom, Cal Poly improved to 2-0 in the California Conference.
Cal State Long Beach women have brought in Rudy Bautista as their new head coach.
Bautista used to coach Los Alamitos HS girls and he has working with him a staff of three assistants: Jocelyn Ortizano, Leeanne Nguyen, and Crystal Elston..
Sierra Boyajian will serve as treasurer.
The curtain drops on the spring DIAA playoffs in a few weeks and
San Diego is the team in Gold Coast after beating Cal State Long Beach 31-19 to move to 3-0 in the conference.
