BERKELEY – California beat Arizona State, 45-5, to win its third straight PAC 7s Rugby Championship Sunday on Witter Rugby Field. The Golden Bears (15-1) also defeated Utah, 34-0, in the semifinals to exit the 11-team, 33-match event unbeaten with the tourney’s most points (226) and tries (38), and fewest points allowed (10 on two tries).
Grand Valley State University capped off their Great Lakes Conference season with a 44-27 victory over Xavier of Cincinnati to win the GLC title.
After entering the season as conference favorites, Bowling Green capped off an undefeated Mid American Rugby Conference season with two victories this weekend.
The Falcons beat Miami of Ohio soundly 53-13 on Saturday to win their semifinal and set up a meeting in the final with Western Michigan, who beat Dayton 17-12.
Fairfield completed their excellent Tri-State season by dismantling a very strong Vassar team 51-14 in the final of the Tri-State Men’s DII Collegiate Conference.
As has been the case all season, Fairfield did the job primarily with defense.
The University of Wisconsin Whitewater defeated UW-Stout 44-10 Sunday to win the Wisconsin-Illinois Intercollegiate League.
The Warhawks, ranked #2 in the nation by Goff Rugby Report, were averaging around 100 points a game going into this weekend, and defeated UW-Lacrosse Saturday in the semis.
