GRR: College Men
Saturday was a full day of rugby in Knoxville, Tenn. as Mary Washington and Lindenwood traveled to play with University of Tennessee.
While the marquee game was Lindenwood's A-side against UMW, there were other games, as well, giving over 120 college rugby players important game time.
Three teams are now unbeaten and atop the Florida D1AA Conference, as Florida, Florida State, and upstarts St. Thomas all won.
For the Florida Gators it was a close-run thing as South Florida scored early and added another to make it 10-0 before the Gators got going. USF still led just after halftime, 17-7 and around 50 minutes, after Isaiah Taylor's try, it was 22-7.
The San Jose Spartans improved to 3-0 in California D1AA league play with an impressive win over Chico State under the lights in San Jose.
A wild, back-and-forth game saw UCLA run away from Grand Canyon Saturday in Phoenix.
The Bruins were in a dogfight for much of the game as the teams traded tries, but a red card in the forwards late in the first half proved too difficult to overcome in the long run for the 'Lopes.
Top-20 D1A teams Lindenwood and Mary Washington met at a neutral site in Knoxville Tenn. (note state abbreviation style) with the Lions coming away with a rain-soaked shutout victory.
On what was a torrentially rainy day the two sides looked to rely on their forwards to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
