The Big XII 7s kicks off this weekend at Oklahoma University in Norman, Okla. with seven teams taking a shot at a USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championship spot.
Only Baylor, Texas, and Kansas will not be represented in the ten-college Big XII (yes, you read that right), while from way back east, West Virginia will bring their squad (pending the effects of another huge snowstorm).
After barely escaping Davenport, Life University hosts Lindenwood in their second of four Mid-South DIA games.
For Head Coach Tui Osborne, the lessons from Saturday are pretty straightforward.
Well, it had to happen. With the #2 and #3 teams playing each other, the #1 team, Life, was in jeopardy unless they won big over #7 Davenport. They didn't. LIfe edged Davenport 28-25, and BYU edged St. Mary's 32-28. The results move the Cougars of Provo up to #1 and Life slips to #2.
It was a heartbreaking loss for St. Mary’s. After leading at halftime and battling their way back from a deficit, the Gaels didn’t quite have enough time to overhaul BYU Saturday.
The Cougars won 32-28, reversing the result between the two in Moraga a year ago. But St. Mary’s Head Coach Tim O’Brien had the game in perspective.
The University of Notre Dame won the opening tournament of the ACRL 7s series this weekend, defeating Virginia Tech 24-21 in the final.
