GRR: College Men
Perhaps one of the biggest shockers in this spring of college 7s tournaments was Alabama’s victory at the SCRC 7s championships.
With South Carolina having won all three qualifiers, and with the next two strongest teams being Tennessee and Florida, it seemed as if Alabama, which finished 4th in all three buildup events, was just one of several dark horses running in the race.
Arizona State University finished off their 15s season with a high, beating Ohio State 59-0 in impressive fashion in their second-annual Rugby Bowl.
The Rugby Bowl is a special event started by Arizona State to highlight one game a year in a high-level venue and showcase the game. Last year, ASU played BYU.
Miami of Ohio came from almost out of the blue to win the MAC 7s this past weekend, and they admit it was a bit of a surprise.
“We didn’t play well last weekend,” said Miami Coach Jared Moore.
The first big college 7s championship weekend is slated for April 25 in Virginia Beach as the ACRC 7s Championships for both men and women kick off.
Teams with serious championship aspirations will be at the ACRC 7s. Here’s a look at the field of teams:
American International College
Bentley University
East Stroudsburg University
Heat Elite
The University of the Pacific won the NSCRO Challenge Cup Sunday with a comeback victory over Northern Colorado Sunday in Pittsburgh.
