GRR: College Men
A few outbreaks of the latest version of COVID meant for a couple of canceled games.
In addition, lightning kiboshed a game or two. Still we got to see some results and also two warmup tournaments that give us a little insight into how those teams look.
Wow what an interesting week in Men's college rugby.
While our top two were not in the thick of it—Brown played a preseason game where they were heavily favored, and St. Bonaventure played their alumni—many others were. This big game so far was Notre Dame College at Thomas More, and NDC came away with a quite impressive road win and they, of course, move up.
It’s going to be a fun time in the Liberty Conference this season.
Yes it’s true that Brown is the defending NCR D1 champion, returns several of the players from that team, and appears to be ready to reload. But other teams are working their way forward, too.
Lightning and thunder plagued much of the rugby throughout the Northeast over the weekend, but with a little luck and some patience several of the games did indeed get played, including a very interesting non-conference meeting between top small-college team Babson, and NCR D1 side AIC.
Rugby East teams had a solid weekend playing against teams outside their conference.
Yes Navy and Army both lost to Trinity, the rugby team for Dublin University, but the scorelines, competitive at 36-14 and 38-7.
