GRR: College Men
The University of Vermont won the 5th Annual Scott Milley Sevens and with the victory earned an invitation to the USA Rugby DII College Championship.
Written by Angela Francisco - High winds were blowing the rugby ball in all sorts of directions, but that didn’t stop teams from across the state of Connecticut from coming out and playing each other in the Connecticut Cup on Saturday, April 4.
The Men's DIA college rugby playoffs are almost confirmed, as we head to the last couple of weeks of action.
Here's how it's looking:
Colorado State won again, but didn't win by enough to unseat Air Force, and the Zoomies are West DIA winners. They will join Life, St. Mary's, and Army as the highest-ranked conference winners, and all will get a bye into the quarterfinals.
Kutztown University hosted their second annual KU Rugby 7s Tournament Saturday, coming away with the championship over a tough AIC team.
The event consisted of 13 teams divided into a Premier Division and Open Division.
The surprise of the DIAA playoff picture has to be Yale University, which came into the Ivy League play-ins as the lowest seed - so low, in fact, that they only made the cut because Columbia didn’t want to play in it.
And yet, Yale upset favorites Cornell 34-5 on Saturday, and then defeated Brown 18-13 to take the final Sunday.
