GRR: College Men
World Rugby's adjustment to Regulation 8 has put a complication into the Major League Rugby draft and post-draft signings.
Put briefly, overseas players who were only registered with NCR may find some teams reluctant to draft or sign them because of how that affects their USA rugby-residency status.
As we have pointed out in previous articles on GRR, player and team dues in college rugby remains an issue.
Because National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) is not a member of USA Rugby, their members are also not members of USA Rugby, and as a result, USA Rugby does not support their members playing NCR teams.
Penn State men’s rugby has hired Zac Mizell as its head coach.
Mizell comes to Penn State after serving as the men’s rugby head coach at Adrian College in 2023-24, where he was the Midwest Rugby Conference Coach of the Year. He also currently serves as head coach of the men’s elite team at the Ohio Aviators Rugby Academy.
Goff Rugby Report is previewing the Major League Rugby Draft by looking the positions and also checking in on some of the issues that drive the draft decisions—home-grown players, moving, and non-MLR playing opportunities.
The Major League Rugby draft will be here soon.
We at Goff Rugby Report World Headquarters will be running a series of draft preview shows, and here's our first one.
Do you want to be picked in the draft or become an undrafted free agent? Well, it depends.
What roll do non-MLR clubs play in helping these players? Perhaps a lot.
