GRR: College Men
It’s right around Spring Break. Maybe the college players are done with mid-terms and looking ahead to final exams. For DIA rugby, that means the playoffs.
We had a look at the playoff scenarios and situations, and here’s what we’ve got:
Technically there’s nothing at stake in Salt Lake City this weekend. Utah has a shot at finishing 2nd in the PAC Rugby Conference, and may well have already done enough to warrant a DIA playoff invitation.
BYU is already slated for the Varsity Cup, where they expect to go all the way to the final.
Now the job gets a little harder.
After losing a close one to Life and winning a close one over Davenport, Lindenwood looks to unseat Life at home, and perhaps put them in a position to win the Mid-South.
Wheeling Jesuit defeated West Virginia 75-18 Saturday in a non-conference game.
Former USA U20 player and collegiate All American Peter Malcolm scored four tries in the game and Inosi Kau scored two in a game that saw nine players touch down.
The game was held after the Gonzaga HS v Royal Irish high school clash. That game led into this battle of West Virginia.
In a wild non-conference game in Southern California, #46 San Diego State defeated #17 UCLA 42-41 Saturday.
It was a back-and-forth game in warm conditions at the UCLA campus, with the lead changing 11 times helped by an adventurous approach from both teams and plenty of defensive miscues.
