GRR: Storer Classic
As always the Storer Classic provides some important preseason rugby for teams in the West, and this year did not disappoint.
There were several solid showings with SOC Raptors, Marin, Carlsbad, and Layton Christian all producing some good results. Atop all of those was Belmont Shore, which ended the weekend 3-0.
Cal rugby shut out UCLA 21-0 on Day Two of the Dennis Storer Classic to top the tournament for the 18th consecutive year.
The Golden Bears victory followed on Day One victories over UC San Diego (94-0) and Cal Poly (33-7).
After a week where we had one college game, here's a look at a slightly busier slate for this week.
UCSB kicks off their conference season at Stanford in the California D1AA conference; Saint Mary's continues their season with a game against the SFGG club; Central Washington opens up their season with a club opponent, as well, Seattle in this case.
Cal won the Storer Classic, giving up zero points through the weekend and beating UCLA 45-0 in the final game on Sunday.
Cal, Cal Poly, UCLA, and Utah all went 2-0 in the Storer Classic Saturday at the UCLA campus.
Rain of course affected play during the day but the games had been moved to turf fields that allowed the tournament to proceed.
