GRR: Aladdin Schirmer
A USA Falcons men’s 7s team finished 4th in the Punta del Este 7s in Uruguay this weekend, giving some much-needed international experience for some up-and-comers.
Now on the campus of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, the Men’s Collegiate All Americans are in warmer weather and looking ahead to a match against Brothers on Wednesday.
The game will kick off at Crosby Park in Brisbane, QLD at 6pm local time, which is 4am Eastern Time and 1am Pacific Time.
Things didn’t start out perfectly on the field for the Men’s Collegiate All Americans, as they fell behind 12-0 early against Darling Downs, but that was just a chance for the leadership to come through.
And central to that was captain Aladdin Schirmer.
You might be surprised by who isn’t starting for the Men’s Collegiate All Americans in the opening game of the team’s Australian tour, but don’t worry, you’ll see everyone eventually.
The game itself will have open subs - a situation requested by the Darling Downs club, but one that fits right in with what Head Coach Gavin Hickie wants to do.
Uruguay defeated the USA 29-25 Saturday in the Americas Rugby Championship, capitalizing on some USA mistakes, penalties, and inexperience to mount a comeback for a big home win.
This was only the second time Uruguay has beaten the Eagles - the other time was 10-9 in 2002 in Montevideo. In 2014, the two teams tied in Montevideo.
