GRR: West Chester
The 2014-15 season was an unforgettable one for Life University, which competed in its first DI season and finished third at the national spring championships. The Running Eagles then followed with a debut performance at the CRC 7s and sent a representative to the first-ever Women’s Collegiate All American 7s team, which won the Elite City 7s.
Kennesaw State is dense with nervous energy, as four college national championships prepare to play out tomorrow. For women’s DII finalist UC Riverside, it’s an experience that almost never happened. The Southern California team fundraised for trips to Albuquerque and Pittsburgh, but cashed in every favor to afford the trip to the spring championship.
Division I is four games away from naming its 2014-15 women’s college champion. The spring semifinalists will compete on Friday, April 24, at Pittsburgh’s Founders Field, and name the spring champion on Saturday. The national final occurs on May 9 against fall champion Penn State.
West Chester returns to the DI spring final four, but it was no easy road. UVA wanted that return bid to Pittsburgh, and the fact that the duo played each other two weeks ago meant that both sides had targeted game plans in place. But the Rams were able to enforce their style of play better and won 28-9.
The Mid-Atlantic region sees a rematch of the Mason Dixon conference final in tomorrow's DI quarterfinals: West Chester vs. UVA. The pair won their respective Round of 16 matches convincingly, as the Rams beat James Madison 82-0, and UVA topped Virginia Tech 74-7.
