GRR: UW-Whitewater
The fall, 2015 season started with Wisconsin-Whitewater Head Coach Matt Pederson saying his team was in the toughest conference in men’s DII college rugby, and that was before Northern Iowa and Lindenwood-Belleville had played their first games in the WIIL.
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Lindenwood-Belleville will face off for the WILL Conference Championship Sunday after both teams won their semifinal games in this highly-competitive men’s DII college league.
Wisconsin-Whitewater continues to roll in the WIIL with an impressive 85-0 shutout of UW-Stout.
It’s been a long season for Stout, which started the fall ranked in Goff Rugby Report’s top ten, in part because they hadn’t lost a lot of players to graduation. But things have not gone their way, while Whitewater continues to win.
In a clash of two highly-ranked teams, #2 Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated #4 Wisconsin-Lacrosse 36-15.
Lacrosse came out firing and in fact led 8-0 early on. But Whitewater rebounded with two tries to tai the lead.
The new-look WIIL Men’s DII conference gets underway this weekend with 2014 national finalists the UW-Whitewater Warhawks heading up a strong lineup of teams.
