GRR: Utah Youth Rugby
In something of an upset in Utah's HS league, Snow Canyon edged the Salt Lake Valley Rhinos 38-36 Saturday.
In a clash of ranked HS club teams in Utah, Genesis defeated a tenacious Salt Lake Valley Rhinos 29-19.
Genesis did so despite losing about a third of their starters due to injury and other issues. Head Coach Eric Nelson was quick to put that out of his players' minds.
The Salt Lake Valley Rhinos are now ranked #13 in the Goff Rugby Report HS Club rankings, and they have nothing to thank but their results.
The Rhinos competed well in the Ra Puriri Tournament, and after a loss to Herriman defeated Provo and (!) United to get the rankings recognition.
Herriman high school's game this past weekend was snowed out, but that was far from the worst news of the week for the team.
The program's trailer, which held equipment and kit worth about $12,000 was stolen from its parking space at Copper Mountain Middle School in Herriman, Utah.
Prior to the pivotal matchup in Utah between rivals Genesis and United, both clubs learned about the special significance of this particular match.
