STANFORD, Calif. – California went 5-0 and won PAC 7s Champions on Sunday, taking the tournamet for the seventh time in the past eight years.
After going 3-0 to sweep pool play on Saturday, the Bears entered Sunday with a tough challenge against the UCLA Bruins in the Cup Semifinal.
It's going to be a bit of a repeat of October as November welcomes the PAC-12 Conference Sevens to Stanford.
UCLA took the West Coast 7s in dramatic fashion, defeating Arizona 17-14 with a try in the corner on the final play.
The Bruins were superb throughout the tournament, finding a way to get both speedster Eric Naposki and speedster Lucas Lacamp space to punish defenders. Much of that hinged on the vision of Shane Barry, who repeatedly set those two free.
College teams as well as players and fans from around the country have voted to create the list of five finalists for the Rudy Scholz Award.
Given annually to the top men's college player in the country, the Rudy Scholz Award is sponsored by the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, WA and has been presented each of the last three years.
