GRR: Tournaments
The Maryland Exiles Rugby Festival got back on track this month and like a lot of tournaments is looking to rebuild after some COVID speedbumps.
This year saw North Bay, Loudoun County, Mount St. Joseph's, Frederick, and, of course, the hosts MDX take each other on.
Some tournaments are in the slate this weekend in Boys HS rugby.
St. Louis University High is hosting a All-Catholic-School tournament this weekend, bringing in several ranked teams to St. Louis.
St. Thomas Aquinas, ranked #6 among school teams at the moment, headlines a group that includes SLUH (ranked until recently), #44 Father Ryan, #48 St. Martin (Kingfishers), #37 Notre Dame de la Salette, and an up-and-coming Chaminade.
Places still remain at the NAI 7s, set for Salt Lake City July 22-23.
The age-grade 7s event, which welcomes clubs and select sides in a variety of brackets, with over 100 teams expected from all over the USA and from places around the world. The tournament is one of the elite events on the rugby calendar and is a crucible for talented players to achieve at a higher level.
The National 7s Youth Rugby Championships are back for 2022 and once again will be held in Cleveland on the fields of St. Ignatius HS.
Several returning programs such as Belmont Shore, Eagle Impact Rugby Academy, and Rhino Rugby Academy are back again for another shot, while new teams such as LA Tribe and Upright Rugby Rogues are also coming.
