GRR: Stonehill
As Saint Michael’s and Stonehill entered the final week of the Rugby Northeast season, both teams had already secured places in the DII fall Round of 32. But there was no semblance of comfort on the pitch when the undefeated rivals contested the conference title Saturday. Stonehill wanted its third-straight trophy, but Saint Michael’s controlled the game for a 41-12 win.
Stonehill College is heading to the ACRA 7s Championship, having won the Rugby Northeast 7s title last weekend. The tournament host went 6-0 on the day, outscoring opponents 149-47. Stonehill can now turn its attention to returning to the DII ACRA 7s final.
Stonehill and St. Michael’s have been trading blows for the Rugby Northeast title the last few years, but neither has claimed the title with an unblemished record. That changed this fall, and en route to its second league trophy, the Stonehill women broke a number of conference and school records.
