GRR: St. Thomas Houston
St. Thomas traveled to Morristown, NJ last Thursday as part of the Texas-based team's Spring Break tour, and faced off with defending state champion Delbarton Prep.
It was expected to be a tough game, but Delbarton has graduated some players and struggled to keep up with a more game-tested St. Thomas team.
DC's Georgetown Prep hosted St. Thomas High School out of Houston, Texas Tuesday on the first stop of a short eastern tour for the Texans.
Dallas Jesuit made the long trip down I-45 to Houston to play a friendly in the Bishops Cup against St. Thomas, and in a very physical clash, it was the Dallas team that came out on top, 21-17.
St. Thomas was missing four starters, but battled hard nonetheless, while Jesuit was resilient, patient, and disciplined in their approach.
Westlake is now 2-0 in Rugby Texas after beating Strake Jesuit 37-15 Saturday.
Other winners in Texas include Katy, which defeated St. Pius X 38-13, Lake Travis, which beat Plano 83-3, and St. Thomas, which defeated Strake Jesuit 37-5. Kingwood shut out Lamar 22-0, while Rock Rugby looked impressive in a 78-15 defeat of Four Points.
St. Thomas of Houston opened up their Rugby Texas league season with a 28-3 defeat of St. Pius X Friday night.
St. Pius X us much improved and is fielding one of their strongest teams in some years. Big and physically imposing, they are led up front by junior captain and No. 8 Alec Kenda, and senior flanker Lechi Anumduyu.
