Saint Mary's defeated BYU 35-28 to move to 4-0 in this shortened college rugby season.
The Gaels have beaten BYU twice, both close games, and also beaten Cal and Central Washington. For BYU, it was yet another close game the Cougars didn't quite win—they have been within reach of Cal, and twice with Saint Mary's, and tied Central Washington.
The 2020 Rudy Scholz Award-winner, Payton Telea-Ilalio has not let up in 2021.
The Saint Mary's prop, who got his start in the Bishop Riordan program in Northern California, has only really been stopped by COVID, as the Gaels have, so far, only been able to play three games.
Saint Mary's defeated BYU 22-19 in a thriller of a game played at the Saint Mary's ground in Moraga, Calif.
The game was back-and-forth and at times each of the teams seemed to be in control, but that control was all too fleeting.
BYU is set to take on Saint Mary's in Moraga at 1PM PT today.
As has been the case all season, getting games ready to go on the West Coast has been difficult. But late Friday the OK was given and the game is on.

While it's difficult to put Saturday's Saint Mary's vs Cal result in context, it's hard to ignore a 32-14 scoreline in favor of the Gaels.
