GRR: St. Mary's
A couple of weeks ago Goff Rugby Report named our College Player of the Year.
That was Kyle Sumsion, the captain and flanker for BYU. It meant we needed to name a Back of the Year, and this week that player gets his due.
St. Mary’s University almost made. Through a long 15s season they eventually produced a DIA championship, and then through Saturday at the USA Rugby College 7s Championships in Denver, they were undefeated and in with an excellent chance of winning the Cup.
St. Mary’s has been just two weeks removed from playing in the DIA 15s final, but this week they will look to pull off a championship double with the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s Championships in Denver, Colo.
The St. Mary’s Gaels knew they had a job ahead of them in facing Life University in the DIA final Saturday, and while they led for much of the match, they never, really quite shook the Running Eagles.
That’s just what they expected.
In a thrilling and wild game at Kennesaw State University, the St. Mary’s Gaels defeated Life University 30-24 in the Men’s DIA College final Saturday.
The game was back and forth all day, and ended with Life right on the St. Mary’s tryline, but the Gaels managed to escape and win it.
