GRR: SOC Raptors
Texas Team The Woodlands (GRR #2) completed its short Southern California tour with a very impressive 2-0 showing, winning a close one over #1-ranked HS Club Belmont Shore and defeating #11 SOC Raptors in games on Tuesday and Thursday.
As always the Storer Classic provides some important preseason rugby for teams in the West, and this year did not disappoint.
There were several solid showings with SOC Raptors, Marin, Carlsbad, and Layton Christian all producing some good results. Atop all of those was Belmont Shore, which ended the weekend 3-0.
Belmont Shore is now alone atop the Southern California HS Club standings after a 33-26 defeat of the San Diego Mustangs.
"Good contest," said Mustangs Head Coach MAtty Sandoval. "The better team won; [Belmont Shore] is better than last year, probably the best team in the country. We played well."
Southern California's Boys club season got a jolt over the weekend as the four teams expected to challenge for the championship were involved in two games.
SOC Raptors were downed by a solid Belmont Shore side 38-17. The Raptors did see Clarence Chaney and Jacob Bower score tries, while Keegan Hannon added a conversions and a penalty, and Redmond Chelsey also added a penalty.
Southern California club teams are finally get into the action.
This weekend we saw three of the top four SoCal clubs from last year playing.
The SOC Raptors visited Tempe in a non-conference game and came away with a 33-19 victory. The Raptors U16s beat Tempe's U16s 52-24. The Raptors Bombers side, basically their 2nd side of mostly U18s, beat Red Mountain.
