GRR: SCIRF
A little less than a year after winning the Southern California CIF Rugby Championship, St. John Bosco High School has won the CIF state football title in the Open Division, beating another strong rugby/football program, De La Salle, in the final.
The first weekend of the Southern California Youth Rugby is done with some of the major contenders getting off to a solid start.
Defending champion La Jolla won, and the team they beat by a single point in last year's final won, as well.
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated St. John Bosco 32-24 to win the All-California Single-School title Saturday.
This championship is a revitalization of a fixure that was held for some years, but abandoned. Rugby NorCal and the Southern California Interscholastic Rugby Federation brought it back this year. De La Salle defeated St. Augustine to take 3rd.
St. John Bosco upset St. Augustine to take the SCIRF title over the weekend, in a win that was not without controversy.
Bosco did well to stifle an impressive St. Augustine attack, and held the Saints to just 11 points.
The weekend of games gets busier and busier.
