GRR: Sacred Heart
Perhaps the biggest upstart program in women's collegiate rugby this year was Sacred Heart.
Quinnipiac defeated Army 22-17 to tighten its grip on a semifinal place in the NIRA Women's NCAA DI competition.
NIRA action outside of DI was relatively quiet as many teams played cross-divisional matches, but in DI it was a big weekend, one with potentially significant ramifications within the new Power Ratings.
Let’s take a look:
It’s nice to be 2-0, and Sacred Heart is exactly that, but let’s not get carried away.
The Pioneers, having beaten Army 31-7 and Brown 22-8 this past weekend, have to be thought of as a major player in NIRA DI. But Head Coach Michelle Reed also cautions everyone to keep it in perspective.
Sacred Heart has backed up their opening salvo in NIRA with another big win, defeating Brown University 22-8 to move to 2-0.
The Pioneers have now beaten both Army and Brown, benefiting from a big second half to get their second victory.
Sophomore Ashley Torres-Brown scored two tries while Reese Torticill and Makena Wright also touched down.
