GRR: Rugby Oregon
There's very little between the four HS club teams left in Rugby Oregon.
Sure Beaverton ended the season 10-0, but their victories over Eastside and Linn Benton (26-22 and 10-3) were pretty tight. Even #4 seed Bend has been a physical test for all concerned.
If you think the Valley Panthers are eager for a rematch against Oregon state champion Grant (read more), then meet Beaverton, which lost to the Generals in last year’s title match.
Newberg HS is at the top of the Rugby Oregon Varsity league after sweeping their round-robin games this against Canby and Lincoln past weekend.
The girls high school Oregon state semifinals get underway this weekend, and if the tension of the spring season carries over to the playoffs, then expect some thrilling games this Saturday. The team to beat is Grant, the reigning 15s champion and undefeated in Rugby Oregon this spring. But the Generals have played some close games, most notably against the Valley Panthers and Lady Barbarians.
Union HS moved to the top of Oregon’s single-school league with a convincing 43-0 defeat of previously 5-0 Oregon City.
With the victory Union improves to 5-0 and is now only potentially worried about Newberg. At 4-0, Newberg has some big games coming up, including Oregon City on Saturday, and a shortened round-robin game with Union in May.
