WASHINGTON, DC—On June 9, new Major League Rugby team Old Glory DC hosted a full slate of middle school and high school all-star curtain-raiser matches prior to their final match of their inaugural exhibition season against the Toronto Blues at Catholic University in Northeast Washington DC.
It’s been tight all season in the Rugby Maryland HS club league, with the Maryland Exiles, West Carroll, and Howard County all in a virtual tie atop the standings.
This weekend’s playoffs decided a state winner—Maryland Exiles—but didn’t change the perception that these teams are all pretty strong.
In a game that illustrated how close the top three teams in Rugby Maryland are, the Maryland Exiles were able to just get by West Carroll 15-14 this past weekend.
Capped Eagle Inaki Basauri returned to his high school team, Maryland Exiles Youth Rugby, to run a practice session during his brief Christmas Holiday before returning to his professional rugby commitments in France.
Registration is open for the Girls and Boys Rugby Maryland Academy, and this is a chance for players to hone the most important rugby skills..
The Academy has a stated mission to raise a player's rugby IQ, and with that in mind has lined up the likes of Laura Miller, Mike Petri, AND Nancy Fitz, plus other experienced coaches, including Towson University head coach Tony De Cesare.
