After a successful tour to Phoenix with matches against Tempe and Arizona Bobcats, Illinois HS club Neuqua returned home to take on Illinois opposition.
The game with Notre Dame de La Salette was called off due to weather, but Neuqua was able to play the Fox Valley Predators and and won 59-17.
The West Suburban Bulls won the Rugby Illinois D2 championship earlier this month, defeating Notre Dame La Salette Academy 31-28 in dramatic fashion.
The Bulls opened the scoring first but La Salette stormed back to score three converted tries and lead 21-7 at halftime.
The second half continued in the same vein and La Salette built a 28-7 lead.
Some quick notes from state championships around the nation.
In New York it will be Rye vs Xavier on Sunday for the state D1 championship. Rye shut out Canisius 18-0 and Xavier beat Corning on Saturday.
In Illinois, Glen Ellyn defeated New Trier 45-17 Friday night to take the Rugby Illinois title. Joey Pope scored four tries for the Ducks.
YORKVILLE, Ill. – Week 2 of the Rugby Illinois RugbyX series saw across the board improvement which in turn provided greater parity. Score lines were much tighter as team play improved dramatically. Players’ stamina went further and fewer runaway trys were being scored against exhausted opposition.
