GRR: Rowan University
As expected the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference is a little confusing, and this week's results don't make it any more predictable.
It was an interesting day in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference Saturday.
St. Joseph's, rated by many coaches in the conference as the front-runner, lost 21-17 to Rowan to slip to 2-1. Rowan, which beat Delaware last week and Temple the week before is now 3-0.
Eight teams are in Pittsburgh for half of the Men's DII College playoffs, and it's likely we'll see a new challenger out of one of those brackets.
Rowan University won the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference championship with a 32-17 defeat of York Sunday.
York pulled off a slight upset on Saturday in the semis, defeated IUP 39-22. It was a bit of a shocker to IUP given that Indiana had won the earlier meeting of the two teams 29-22. But York got up early and kept the pressure on. Rowan, meanwhile, took care of Scranton 50-7.
Well, that could have been very different. Towson University is in the national DII semifinals, after beating Rowan, but it almost frittered away in the final moments, as Rowan scored two late tries to make it 44-41.
