GRR: Rhinos Rugby Academy
It's been an interesting first day at the United World Games in Austria, with three American select programs fielding six teams.
Here's a quick rundown:
Rhinos Rugby AcademyRhinos Rugby Academy has a U18 Girls and a U16 Boys team in the competition.
The Men’s U23 bracket at the NAI 7s turned out to be all about the Rhinos.
The Southern California-based program, which works closely with a group of young rugby players throughout the year, dominated the championship.
While Belmont Shore and Rhinos looked the stronger teams in the National Sevens Youth Rugby Championships girls bracket, Cleveland Rugby Academy got plenty of experience and continued to play better and better.
There were surprises throughout the Boys Elite U18 bracket at the Tropical 7s.
The Falcon 7s opened the door to elite-level 7s for women and girls players, and we saw some talent rise to the top.
Julie McCoy, who heads up hosts American Rugby Pro Training Center (ARPTC), ran the tournament, and pulled triple-duty as live-streaming commentator, was impressed with the standard of play, especially on the high school side.
