GRR: Playoffs
Southern California is the big winner in tomorrow’s women’s DII college spring championship, as CSU Northridge and UC Riverside advance to the title bout. The victor will compete against Notre Dame College on May 9 at Kennesaw State (Ga.) for the national championship.
Central Washington has perfected the art of the comeback, rallying from a 15-point deficit against Women's Cougar Rugby (BYU) to win the DI spring championship 29-15. The game looked eerily similar to yesterday's semifinal against Life, which took a 17-5 halftime lead before being held scoreless in the second half.
It’s down to two teams: Either BYU or Central Washington will advance to the May 9 national bout as the spring champion. Two very different games evolved today, but both exciting.
After a couple years of coming close, Danville has its first Northern California girls high school title. But it wasn’t easy. Sacramento, despite its ups and downs this season, was ready to defend its territory, but ultimately the Lady Oaks, in their third year of existence, prevailed 41-38.
A big weekend awaits in girls high school rugby, as the Midwest Championship is poised to play out in Elkhart, Ind. Division I will bring some of the region’s best teams together, while Division II allows up-and-coming teams to share in the competitive weekend.
