Georgia's Phoenix club battled through for a 30-26 win over Columbia Area (aka Irmo) in the third game of the Mid-South Independent Rugby League (MSIRL) this weekend.
In a game played in good conditions after some rough winter weather in the region in previous days, neither team could pull too far ahead.
Myers Park defeated Phoenix 38-29 Saturday in the first game of the Mid-South Independent Rugby League (MSIRL), a competition of top teams from the Carolinas and Georgia.
The North Carolina team got two tries from Adam Phifer and tries from Niklas Atzor, Matthew Start, and Ty Graham. They also got a penalty try, while lip Patterson kicking three conversions.
Nine HS boys teams from the South have created a new league, and that league kicks off this weekend.
A new Boys HS league is being set up in the Southeast, with nine teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia committing to play in the new competition.
Rugby Georgia started its 2nd half of the spring 15s season after The Phoenix and Barbarians returned from the Carolina Ruggerfest and others returned from a weekend in Vegas as members of the USA South Panther’s 7s squads.
Going into the weekend the Phoenix were undefeated and in first place, followed by the Titans, Trojans and Barbarians.
