GRR: Pendleton
Pendleton and Westside recorded victories this week as Rugby Indiana's league season starts to ramp up.
Pendleton backed up their win over Bishop Dwenger with a 24-19 defeat of HSE Mudsock Wednesday night.
Pendleton Rugby's tour to Memphis and New Orleans began with a very good showing over the weekend.
The Indiana HS club defeated #13-ranked 901 (formerly Germantown) out of Tennessee 29-5.
The second annual Greer Christmas 7s Rugby Tournament is in the books with the Raleigh Redhawks girls, Pendleton boys, and Loudoun boyls all showing well.
The new-look, two-day tournament resembled last years’ one-day affair. The tourney saw many of the same teams in the Girls, Boys Gold, and Boys Silver divisions.
Rugby Indiana crowned seven state champions over the weekend.
Carmel won the Girls HS championship and also the girls 7th/8th-grade championship, while Noblesville won the girls Challenge Cup.
Among the boys, Center Grove won a close final in the Boys 7th-8th grade and St. Xavier (Ky.) took the Challenge Cup over Chargers.
Everything seems to have tightened up in Rugby Indiana and Wednesday night's result between Pendleton and Royal Irish just reinforced that notion.
After beating Bishop Dwenger by a single point, Royal Irish achieved the same feat Wednesday.
Pendleton is coming along with a young squad, and a late comeback from them fell just short.
