With a 39-10 victory over Phillip O. Berry Academy Monday night, North Mecklenburg secured the #2 seed in the North Carolina single-school playoffs, behind Charlotte Catholic.
“We focused on disciplined attack and defense during recent practice sessions and it paid off,” said Head Coach Brent Pasko, who is also a teacher at the school.
The Charlotte Tigers and Raleigh will face off next week for the North Carolina HS club championship after both won semifinals this weekend.
Charlotte defeated Union County 32-12, while Raleigh upended Chapel Hill 39-17.
The Tigers were pleased to welcome some players back from injury, and that are a difference for them, said Coach Riaan Van Schalkwyk.
Charlotte Catholic HS is looking to make something of a statement at the Jesuit Classic, as the team caps off something of a rebuilding period.
West Chester successfully defended its Mason Dixon conference title, defeating North Carolina 58-5 in yesterday’s final. The Golden Rams were eager for some competition that would accelerate its build-up toward nationals, and by the second half of the title bout, West Chester was playing the clinical game it will need going forward.
Cal State Long Beach defeated University of Southern California 50-5 to finish 6-0 in the Gold Coast DIAA Conference.
