GRR: Neuqua
St. Louis University High is on tour in Illinois and opened up their tour with a defeat at the hands of Neuqua Friday night.
Neuqua took a very nice step forward after a not-so-great showing at the Carolina Ruggerfest—to be fair they had barely got outside for training before that tournament.
This was a close and well-contested match through 50 minutes.
Two of the stronger teams in Illinois faced off over the weekend and the game proved to be as close as you'd hope.
La Salette was undefeated in-state and Neuqua had lost just the one game as they traveled downstate to Georgetown, Ill.
After a successful tour to Phoenix with matches against Tempe and Arizona Bobcats, Illinois HS club Neuqua returned home to take on Illinois opposition.
The game with Notre Dame de La Salette was called off due to weather, but Neuqua was able to play the Fox Valley Predators and and won 59-17.
Neuqua defeated South Suburban 27-7 in Rugby Illinois action Friday night.
Both teams started this one with younger lineups forced by a couple of key injuries amid rebuilding seasons. Match conditions weren't conducive to a flowing game with wind gusts up to 40 mph and very soft turf from recent storms that made going a slow, tough, muddy affair.
The 2020-2021 rugby season for Neuqua HS in Naperville, Ill. starts next week.
