GRR: Indiana University
The University of Indiana men's rugby program has confirmed that Luke Gross as their new Head Coach.
IU played last season under interim Head Coach Eddie Abel, who had stated that he did not expect to be a long-term coaching solution for the program. Indiana finished runner-up in the Big 10 and then competed in both the R7CC and May Madness 7s under 7s Coach David Fee.
The chase has been a long one.
Kutztown University has logged some major victories. They have won the Rugby East in 15s. Snubbed by the CRC in the early years, they played the qualifier in Las Vegas and won that. They made the CRC final twice and produced Eagles.
It's been a pretty long season for the University of Indiana.
After starting the 15s season in August with a coaching change, the Hoosiers ran through a tough Big 10 season, taking the #1 seed out of the regular season into the final, where they were edged by Ohio State.
For the first time since Spring, 2019, the Big Ten Universities Rugby Conference assembled for a league 7s tournament.
The players have changed since COVID – Minnesota has left the conference while Penn State has joined (for 7s only).
Indiana won the Fighting Irish 7s on a frigid day of competition in South Bend, showing how unity and some serious 7s experience can trump other factors.
