Rugby New Jersey will begin their Fall 7s Series this Sunday at Christian Brother Academy in Lincroft NJ.
This is the 3rd year Rugby NJ is coordinating this Series.
“The competition has been keen, players and coaches are excited and the growth of the game supports the effort." saidy Pat Moroney, Rugby NJ 7’s Director.
Boys HS teams from the Met NY area have started a fall 7s season.
The competition will feature five tournaments, with points awarded in each of them, making for a series winner. Pelham HS has committed to entering three teams, and Keio Academy two. North Fork, Montauk, New York, and Thornton Donovan are also expected to enter, with Rockaway, Harvey, and St. Francis possible.
After the success of recent elite-level high school 7s tournaments, the idea of a series of such events is gaining interest.
In an interesting turn of events this summer, the Rugby Washington Boys HS 7s championship was won by a JV team.
In the final tournament of the season, the Rainier Highlanders, the program that also won the Boys 15s title, fielded two teams, a Varsity and a JV squad.
The Seattle Vikings finished the day in the Rugby Washington 7s series Boys bracket with a 4-0 record this past weekend.
With the Vikings showcasing some snappy team play, they led the field of seven teams. Defending state 15s champs, the Rainier Highlanders, fielded two teams and they ended up going 3-2-2, tying each other and losing only to Seattle.
