GRR: Gold Coast Conference
In a game very similar to our previous encounter, USC came from behind to snatch a Gold Coast Conference semifinal victory from Grand Canyon University, 17-12 Saturday.
Goff Rugby Report has an update on the DIAA College playoff picture.
Sixteen teams are expected to compete for the title, with the final May 7 in Moraga, Calif.
Not all of the teams we thought would be in the playoffs in this article will participate. So here’s how it looks now:
The Gold Coast's leading contenders, UC Riverside and Southern California, have been overtaking the conference whereas Cal State Fullerton, Claremont, and Occidental have been falling short.
The regular league season came to a close for Southern California and Grand Canyon Universities this past weekend as the two teams met in Las Vegas.
Although they had already secured a playoff spot in the Gold Coast Conference, USC needed to achieve at least a double-bonus-point-loss in order to maintain their hold on a first or second place finish and a home playoff match.
As March is around the corner there’s the little matter of figuring out who will be in the Men’s DIAA playoffs.
The DIAA championship is starting to garner some interest around the nation, and programs realize this is a good post-season for smaller DI programs, clubs, and up-and-coming quasi-varsity teams.
