GRR: Freetail 7s
Phoenix dominated the field in the women's bracket and it was as close as possible in the men's bracket in the inaugural Freetails 7s.
When Mickey Patterson was taking Eagle Mountain Rugby to a select-side 7s tournament for high-schoolers, he saw that three of his strongest players were going to miss it because they were playing with a major select-side in a higher bracket; Patterson looked around, concluded he had a pretty good group of athletes, and figured "maybe I can have an elite select-side team too."
The Freetail 7s is set for December 30 and 31 at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex just north of Austin, Texas.
Eight men's teams and four women's teams are playing for a purse and will also be live on Next Level Rugby. The teams are all high-level.
Watch for a new and intriguing sevens tournament coming in December, as the Freetail 7s is slated to kick off December 30 in Austin, Texas.
