DIAA College Rugby News
It's Labor Day Weekend and the beginning of a serious series of college rugby games in D1.
Now, this week and probably next we're mixing up D1A and D1AA / NCR D1 because they are mixing themselves up. Only once we get into strict conference play can we separate them (and maybe not even then).
Some thoughts, now, on what's happening this weekend:
The Mid-Atlantic men's DIAA league features a couple of new teams as James Madison and Salisbury join.
Those two teams left the Chesapeake after realignment in the Chesapeake saw more varsity and almost-varsity teams join.
After a year when there wasn't much rugby, making it that much more difficult for college players to move and connect with senior clubs, we're actually seeing a very strong connection between collegiate rugby and club rugby in the USA Club 7s Championships.
The question of what to do when some college rugby teams are part of National Collegiate Rugby and some are part of USA Rugby-aligned groups like the ACR has been brought into sharp relief in the NCRC.
The Heart of American DIAA conference has settled its schedule for the fall of 2021.
The conference welcomes back Arkansas and also brings in the University of Minnesota, which moves from the Big 10.
The addition of these two programs makes the HOA now ten teams strong, so the teams within the conference agreed to split the conference into two geographical divisions.
