DIA Rugby News
It's Labor Day Weekend and the beginning of a serious series of college rugby games in D1.
Now, this week and probably next we're mixing up D1A and D1AA / NCR D1 because they are mixing themselves up. Only once we get into strict conference play can we separate them (and maybe not even then).
Some thoughts, now, on what's happening this weekend:
After a tumultuous year off, Big Ten Universities Rugby is set to return on Saturday, September 11, with Illinois and Indiana traveling to Purdue and Wisconsin respectively.
After a year when there wasn't much rugby, making it that much more difficult for college players to move and connect with senior clubs, we're actually seeing a very strong connection between collegiate rugby and club rugby in the USA Club 7s Championships.
Cal Poly has hired on former Eagle and former USA assistant coach Chris O'Brien as the program's Head Coach.
Longtime Head Coach James Tesoriero left the program six months ago, and it has taken that long for the Mustangs to find a replacement.
The College Rugby scene isn't getting any less convoluted now that we've had a year or so to pull out of 2020's turmoil, and the question remains exactly how each college rugby team will address competition in the future.
