Fort Hunt Beats Gregory The Great
Fort Hunt Beats Gregory The Great
Fort Hunt logged an impressive early-season victory this weekend, beating highly-ranked single-school Gregory the Great out of Pennsylvania 40-26.
Ranked #9 by GRR among HS Clubs, Fort Hunt clawed back after going down 19-0 to the opportunistic GGA team (#9 among single-schools ranked by GRR). Gregory the Great scored three early tries intercepting passes to take the ball to paydirt each occasion.
After the third, the Fort Hunt halfbacks had a little conversation and figured out what was going wrong. After tightening up their play, Fort Hunt ran in two tries to make it 19-14 at halftime.
The Warriors pushed the pace early in the second half and scored three times in the first 20 minutes of the second period to lead 33-19. GGA replied to make it a one-score game at 33-26, but with three minutes left Fort Hunt iced it with a try to finish off the game 40-26.
It was a notable performance by Fort Hunt in the Virginia sun, and much was thanks to the pace and work rate of their back row and some intelligent goalkicking.
Next up for Fort Hunt will be Xavier HS.
