Pelham Wins NY 7s Tourney With Surge
Pelham HS beat PlayRugby in the final of the third week of New York HS 7s this pas weekend, capping off an exciting day of rugby.
PlayRugby took a 12-0 lead and held that to halftime in the final. But Pelham stormed back with three unanswered tries to win it 21-12 and maintain Pelham’s lead in the NY State series.
This was the second tournament in a row that Pelham and PlayRugby have met in the final.
Dylan Lewis was excellent for Pelham, and he scored one of the tries in the final, along with David Lowe and Ryan Thompson.
In the early knockout rounds, PlayRugby beat a very tough New York team, while New Rochelle beat Bishops Loughlan and Pelham beat Keio Academy.
That set up a three-team double-elimination found. Pelham beat New Rochelle, which meant New Rochelle had to beat PlayRugby for a rematch with Pelham. PlayRugby won that, and that set up the final with Pelham.
