Lindenwood-Belleville Downs Arkansas
Lindenwood-Belleville added another victory to what is likely the program's final season with a fairly comprehensive 39-7 victory over Arkansas.
This was a bit of a warmup for Arkansas as the Razorbacks prep for the Heart of America Conference season. For Lindenwood-Belleville, playing an independent schedule, every game matters. The Lynx started strong and ran out to a 24-0 halftime lead thanks to tries from Pat Donovan, Regan Donnelly, and Alex Haines, with Coleson Warner converting all three and adding a penalty goal.
Things didn't change much in the second half, as Lindenwood-Belleville added tries rom Donnelly (his second), and Warner to make it 34-0. Evian Malik Akers added a try before Arkansas was able to get its first points as time expired.
Lindenwood-Belleville Head Coach Joe Lippert credited his team's defense and discipline in controlling the game.
What does this mean for the Lynx? Well, as the school is shuttering most of its campus and the undergrads are transferring to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. after this year (unless they transfer elsewhere), this is about going out with a bang. Having secured a national DIAA college sevens title, the Lynx now look to do enough in an independent schedule to garner an invitation to the DIAA 15s playoffs.
This shouldn't be a problem. The Lynx have notched wins over University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin (both DIA schools), and now Arkansas. They did lose to DII power Iowa Central CC, but those two have a rematch scheduled. Purdue, Kentucky, Arkansas State, Lindenwood, and Oklahoma remain on the schedule. If L-B beats Purdue, Kentucky, and Lindenwood, then a place in the national playoffs is assured.
