Doylestown Celebrates 45 Years
Doylestown Celebrates 45 Years
In 1974, a small group of men playing rugby for the Blackthorn Rugby Football Club made a decision to break away and start a rugby club in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In the beginning, it was a team of men playing rugby and forming friendships. The club has grown to be one of the most successful and competitive rugby programs in the country. The Doylestown Rugby Football Club has successfully brought the game of rugby to the Doylestown and surrounding community.
Doylestown Rugby now has Men’s, Women’s, and Old Boys’ teams, as well as the Doylestown Rugby Academy, which has High School Boys’, High School Girls’, Middle School Girls’, Junior (U15) Boys’, and Youth (U13) Boys’ teams, as well as a summer youth flag rugby program. The accomplishments of Doylestown Rugby include many league and state championships, high school All-Americans, and representatives on the United States national teams, including USA Eagles.
This Memorial Day Weekend (May 23rd -26th, 2019), the club is planning a series of events to celebrate its anniversary and history. The weekend will kick off with a Meet and Greet on Thursday night, May 23rd. A Golf Outing will be held on Friday, May 24th, and there be adult and youth games, as well as a picnic and pig roast, throughout the course of the weekend.
