NorCal Playoff Hopes Ride On Exciting Finish
NorCal Playoff Hopes Ride On Exciting Finish
Northern California's Premier HS division reaches a crucial period in the coming weekends.
The playoff seedings are all at stake as teams face off. While we've seen a number of interesting results - not least of which last week's Danville win over Jesuit - many of those games were between the Sacramento and Bay Area divisions, and not counting in league play.
So right now, despite all the very challenging games played, the standings look like this:
Sacramento | W | L | T | PF | PA | BP | Pts |
CK McClatchy | 2 | 1 | 0 | 159 | 57 | 3 | 11 |
Jesuit | 2 | 0 | 0 | 78 | 20 | 2 | 10 |
Granite Bay | 2 | 1 | 0 | 109 | 72 | 2 | 10 |
Mother Lode | 1 | 2 | 0 | 56 | 101 | 1 | 5 |
Solo Falcons | 0 | 3 | 0 | 29 | 181 | 0 | 0 |
Bay Area | W | L | T | PF | PA | BP | Pts |
Lamorinda | 2 | 0 | 0 | 73 | 46 | 2 | 10 |
SFGG | 1 | 1 | 0 | 48 | 52 | 3 | 7 |
Danville | 1 | 1 | 0 | 90 | 31 | 2 | 6 |
Marin | 0 | 2 | 0 | 29 | 111 | 1 | 1 |
The top three teams get in, with the top seeds getting a bye to the semis.
Despite a loss to CK McClatchy last week (non-league), SFGG is in very good shape. Some of their injured players are coming back, and the San Francisco team has a non-league game against Granite Bay before facing 0-2 Marin on March 31. That's the game SFGG should target, but they will want to show well against Granite Bay if only for rankings purposes. SFGG has a bonus points edge over Lamorinda and Danville, and so a win over Marin could sew up 1st.
Meanwhile, Danville and Lamorinda are still scheduled to face off, and that will be on April 14. That game will be crucial for Lamo if it wants a bye to the semis. Danville could well win that game, but would struggle to catch SFGG.
In Sacramento, the big game is this weekend with Jesuit against CK McClatchy. A win for Jesuit probably locks up 1st for the Marauders, especially as they have an additional game, against 0-3 Solo, left. Granite Bay needs to beat (or tie) Mother Lode April 7 to secure a playoff spot. But it's unlikely the Grizzlies can vault to 1st.
