Bay Area Wins Two Against Touring Sides
The Bay Area HS All-Stars played two touring sides this July and came away convincing winners in both games.
Bay Area defeated St. Peters College out of Gore, New Zealand 29-7 led by some strong work from Marshall Ferris at flyhalf and Jeffrey Briez at scrumhalf. Carlos Gomez, Christian Bucklin, Jason Severance, Tala Talapusi, and DJ Alapati all scored tries for the Bay Area team.
Prop Alex Lopeti and Elijah Tafo-Braganza (who was named player of the game) led a strong effort up front.
In the second game,Wisbech College in England met up with the Bay Area team and found it a tough go, as the Americans won 97-10.
"I think the biggest issue they had with us was our physicality," said Bay Area Coach Tony Wells. "It's been a pretty gratifying experience to see these guys come together, and play really well as a team. We've got some good athletes, but it's how they played as a unit that made it work."
Wells said the Bay Area team came from programs all around the region, and served as a way for players on teams that don't always rack up the victories to find some success and be seen.
