Portugal U18s Beat HSAA Boys
Portugal U18s Beat HSAA Boys
The Boys HS All Americans has lost 26-5 to Portugal in the European U18 Championships.
The HSAA team will now play for 5th in the consolation brackt. The American team looks like a group that had just come together, which is indeed the case, and especially their passing and alignments in the backline were disjointed, resulting in a lot of dropped balls, and passes to no one.
Portugal gave the HSAA team fits in the breakdown, pouncing on the ball quickly and stealing plenty of possession. Whether they were making a full release on the ballcarrier, or staying solid on their feet, was debatable, but certainly they were quick and aggressive.
Portugal took an early 6-0 on two penalty kicks. The USA team scored on a weakside scrum move after a long run and a penalty. But the team's goalkicking let them down as they missed the conversion and two penaly attempts during the game. In th second half, the HSAA team didn't really get close to the tryline in part because they couldn't keep possession. Turnovers led to three second-half tries, with a penalty or two for good measure. The second of those tries was a dropped ball that was kicked ahead and gathered for a try - a microcosm of how th HSAA team's day went.
